Have Social Media as Part of Your Integrated Communications Strategy
Consider social media as part of your communications strategy that facilitates interaction.  Sue Ginsburg elaborated that, “Social Media allows your audience to engage and participate in a two-way conversation about your business and brand in an environment that you can manage and monitor.”

Some requirements of using Social Media:
Needs to fit with business strategy
Some tools work better with certain strategies than others
Ongoing commitment to use effectively
Aligning your products/services with your target segment

Research BEFORE You Start Communicating
Marty Pesis highlighted the importance of researching your audience and the social media conversation, prior to engaging in social media, “It is important to know and understand which channels, however niche, your audience is visiting and using to communicate.  Once you know these avenues, it is advisable to monitor the conversation prior to diving in so you have an idea of what is important to your audience as well as identify brand fanatics.”

Identify and Reward Brand Fanatics
Brand fanatics in social media terms are those people who will freely evangelize your brand.  Not all brand fanatics have the greatest reach and penetration with their evangelism, so taking the time to find those fanatics who are well known in your audiences’ community will have the greatest impact. Offer these fanatics specials, offers and information they can give to their “friends” or “clients.”
