How Social Media Can Hurt Your Brand

DPD in partnership with SociaLink Media’s President, Marty Pesis, recently met with Best Buy’s HR Communications team to present: Social Media Explained.

Many areas of social media were covered- including how, if not used properly, it can hurt a brand.  For instance, if a brand or business does not take on the creation and management of a page, the consequence can be their fans taking it upon themselves to create a page and thereby control their brand.   Anyone with a personal profile can create a fan page for a business, artist or brand and need not prove any official affiliation with the pages subject matter.

The flip side of not having a page at all, is having a page, mentioning it on your website and when users go to your page there is no content, or the content is old and neither relevant or engaging.

Lastly, all the great content in the world will not make up for leaving reader questions and posted feedback unresolved.  It is extremely important that a social media strategy looks at the two-way communication aspects of your page and has someone responsible for monitoring the page on a daily basis and then responding to reader posts in a timely manner.
